How Fast Will My Music Become Available in Stores?

Moderation Time, Store Processing, and Recommended Lead Times

Once you upload a release to your dashboard, it goes through several stages: internal moderation, delivery to stores, and publication on the platforms themselves. Each stage has its own timing and recommendations.

How Long Internal Moderation Takes

Internal moderation of releases typically takes:

  • 1–2 business days for standard releases;
  • sometimes even faster — within a single business day.

This means that technically your release can be delivered to stores as soon as the next day after uploading it to your dashboard.

When Music Actually Appears in Stores

After the release is delivered, the speed of publication depends on the individual digital platforms:

  • some stores publish new content within 1–3 days;
  • major platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) may take longer to process it;
  • some niche stores operate with internal editorial queues.

Therefore, your release may appear very quickly — even the next day, but such speed is not recommended for new releases that require proper planning and promotion.

Recommended Lead Times for New Releases

From the perspective of platform requirements, editorial tools, and promotion opportunities, the recommended lead times are:

  • at least 2 weeks before the official release date — industry standard;
  • 4–5 weeks for stores with manual moderation and genre-focused curation, such as Beatport.

These timelines allow you to:

  • submit your track to editorial playlists;
  • run presave and pre-release campaigns;
  • avoid technical delays;
  • increase organic reach during the first release days.

Why Fast Delivery Is Useful When Transferring Your Catalog

Accelerated publication is especially valuable when transferring already-released music from another distributor.

In these cases:

  • your releases can appear on platforms very quickly;
  • downtime between distributors is minimized;
  • streams, statistics, and artist profiles remain intact.

The catalog transfer procedure is described here:

In summary: your release can technically be delivered within 1–2 days and appear very quickly in stores. However, for new releases we strongly recommend allowing at least 2 weeks, and for niche platforms like Beatport — up to 5 weeks, to maximize promotional and editorial opportunities.
