Cover upload errors are almost always caused by artwork not meeting the technical standards required by digital streaming platforms. Streaming services — especially Apple Music — apply strict rules to image quality and file parameters. The full official specification is available here: DMB Media File Specifications (Audio & Artwork) .
The minimum allowed resolution for release artwork is: 3000 × 3000 pixels.
The following sizes are not accepted:
A square 1:1 aspect ratio is mandatory. Rectangular images are automatically rejected by DSP systems.
The only accepted color profile is: RGB.
CMYK is not accepted by streaming platforms, as it is designed for print and causes processing errors.
If your image is in CMYK, it must be properly converted, not simply renamed.
The only supported artwork format is: JPG (JPEG).
The platform does NOT accept the following formats:
Important: you must not simply change the file extension (for example, image.png → image.jpg). This will corrupt the file and cause an upload failure. Always use a proper image converter.
iTunes / Apple Music will reject artwork with poor visual quality even if the file technically meets the resolution requirements.
Even if the file uploads successfully, the release may still be rejected by DSPs due to poor artwork quality.
Make sure your cover fully meets all platform standards to avoid release delays and technical rejections across digital stores.
